Renault officially announces their R5 T3E, with in-wheel motors

French car manufacturer, Renault, have officially announced they’re bringing back the 1980’s classic, this time electrified.

The R5 T3E is housing two rear wheel motors, boasting an output of over 500 bhp. This alongside other performance metrics from an electric chassis and carbon structure is setting us up to see an ultra-speedy reimagined model, ready for release in 2025.

Protean Electric have been developing and testing in-wheel motor technology for over 15 years, creating in-house validation methods that ceased to exist previously. As the leader in the field, and having recently launched the industrialised Gen5 variant of its in-wheel motor after years of hard work, it’s great for the company to see both the recognition and adoption of in-wheel motor technology from a titan of the trade.

Entrance into mainstream markets is not far away and is undoubtedly an exciting time for everyone in the automotive industry.
